The Road to the Latina Entrepreneurship Conference: Meet Viri Maldonado

This month, we are highlighting another inspiring Latina: Viri Maldonado, the founder and CEO of Social Click PR, a public relations agency based in Houston.

With over 10 years of experience in the PR industry and as the founder of her own agency, Viri has built an impressive career!

Let’s see what she has to share!

What is one key piece of information about Public Relations that you believe every entrepreneur should know?

One key piece of information about public relations that every entrepreneur should know is the importance of building a reputation for your business. When you work with a PR agency or a PR professional, they will find effective strategies to help share your brand’s story, manage communications in times of crisis, and help build relationships with media, customers and the community. The results when you have an effective brand reputation can help increase your trust with your community and give you credibility.

What common mistakes do you see entrepreneurs make in Public Relations, and how can they avoid them?

Common mistakes I see entrepreneurs make with public relations is hiring an agency that does not understand your brand or your vision. It is important to find a PR professional that aligns with your values and your mission but most importantly that is passionate about what you are doing. It is so important that you ask the right questions and communicate on the messaging you want to see with your brand.

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs when it comes to building a strong network?

Building a strong network is a crucial part for entrepreneurs. My advice to entrepreneurs would be to start off by attending one networking event per month. It can get overwhelming but putting your face in front of different people helps build your network. Remember to keep in touch with new contacts and do not be afraid to ask for help if you need it. You’d be surprised how many people are willing to connect you with others in your industry to help guide or mentor you.

Looking back on your journey, what’s one piece of advice you’d share with fellow entrepreneurs about the importance of personal development?

I once heard a quote that said, “Invest in yourself as much as you would invest in your business.” You are never too smart or too old to continue to learn and invest in yourself. Personal development helps shape your mindset with new skills that can be implemented in any leadership role. Make it a habit to take a business course, attend conferences, and read articles pertaining to your field.
