Amigas! Mind, Body, and Latina Soul is the one-day event for us to connect, commune, share, and build community together. Physical health and mental wellness are the centerpiece of this event and we are doing everything on our part to create a safe space for you all to relax, reflect, and to support and build each other up.
From panel discussions, expert presentations, and personal testimonials, our room dedicated to Mind will continue the conversation of Latina health and wellness. This track will bring Latinas working in the mental and physical health sectors to our community to share their expertise, listen to what we have to say, and to work with us towards strengthening outcomes for our community.
Our room dedicated to body will embody what brings us to our feet and keeps us active, Amigas! Think group exercises, music, and most importantly, getting physical. This track will have fun options for every skill level and we encourage you to come dressed comfortably so you can partake in every activity.
We are getting intimate in this room dedicated to our Latina Soul. From intimate conversations, interactions, and so much more, this track is all about getting vulnerable and honest with ourselves in a safe space. Come prepared to fully immerse yourself in the experience and to walk away with shared experiences and knowledge that will feed your soul.
What Latinas are Saying About Our Events
"I have never been to an event like this before… I just feel like it’s such an important event because not only are we connecting in the community, but we’re connecting culturally with the Latina community here in Houston, and I just really hope this can get out to the general public. That would be amazing… This is the kind of information that I am looking for as a Latina in the Houston community who is a mental health advocate as well.”
"I loved seeing so many Latina Leaders up there on the panel… In our culture, vulnerable can be seen as a weakness, so we’re afraid to talk about our feelings, and when we close up, and hold those up, that’s when the anxiety, the depression, the mental health issues start to arise. So, for me, I was like, ‘when am I most vulnerable?’ When I am insecure, and we need to talk about those insecurities so that we can become stronger in our mental health."
"I absolutely loved the panel. I think this topic is so important to our community, and more importantly, just bringing everyone together, it just really resonates how much the Hispanic community can come together and talk about something that is so important… I’m practicing to become a licensed professional counselor and so much of what I have learned is that our adolescent population is really struggling right now… I feel like I’m equipped with more knowledge in how to overcome those obstacles."
"Well I was really excited to see so many Latinas interested in mental health and also working in the mental health field all together. I can’t believe it’s 2023 and we’re just doing this. That was the thing that stood out to me the most. I am very grateful for the Latina Leadership Podcast and Anjelica putting this together… I’m a mental health provider, and I think it’s really needed. Even for myself, working with Latinas who have experienced trauma, I often don’t find those resources right away."
