Jacqueline Villagomez is a third generation Latina, born and raised in Houston’s East End. She is described by her peers as a boss lady, a visionary, self-motivated and creative. She commands attention, takes up space, her presence is felt. She’s family focused and a beacon of light.
On Being an Artist: Growing up in a broken home, Jacqueline turned to music, movies, television, writing, any creative outlet, as an escape. That’s where her love of the arts began. She is drawn to meaningful stories, whether they be hidden in musical lyrics, on the big screen, or in a good book. She’s never considered herself an artist, but she is a very creative person and considers art as a way to express herself even now.
What the Future Looks Like: As an actress and singer/songwriter, Jacqueline feels like she’s only just begun. Although she feels like fear and self-doubt kept her from pursuing her dreams as a young person, she’s finally found the confidence to follow her dreams. With a few small projects completed under her belt, she’s hopeful about the future and trying to stay open to the dream in her heart and where it may lead her. She doesn’t intend on being famous or winning awards, but trusts that God is going to take her where she’s supposed to go. She aims to follow peace, not trying to force herself to be someone she’s not. “If a door is not opening it’s not meant for me.” She wants to live life without regrets. In addition to the arts, Jacqueline has always had a soft spot for children and considers herself an advocate for children, especially those who are suffering in abusive homes or in Texas’s broken CPS and/or foster care system. In the next ten years, she plans on becoming a licensed Counselor working with children and adolescents in Houston’s underserved East End community. She believes that God gives everyone gifts and feels this is another calling she doesn’t want to ignore.
