On today’s episode, Anjelica is joined by first-gen Mexican-American Dr. Jessica Gomez, a clinical psychologist, and the current executive director of the non-profit organization, “Momentous Institute”. The Momentous Institute is a 104 year old organization that aims to champion children’s mental health. Inspired by the inequities she witnessed being raised in Southside Chicago, Dr. Gomez has worked as a bilingual psychologist in order to help erase the stigma surrounding the topic of mental health within the Latino community. Hola amigas! On today’s episode, our co-host Susie Barrera sits down with Grammy nominated Tejano singer Destiny Navaira, niece of late Grammy winner and Tejano music legend, Emilio Navaira. ELLA’s main goal is to show Latinas that women of color are more than capable of being in high power positions, “If you can see her you can be her”. With a lower Latino population in Ohio, ELLA recognizes the importance of representation, and aims to uplift other women of color to trust that these positions are well within their grasp. Aside from her Executive Director position at ELLA, Lillian also works as an HR Director, entrepreneur, mother of 5, and organizes monthly meet-ups for craft lovers like herself.
