The Road to the Latina Entrepreneurship Conference: Meet Genesis Loera

We’re so excited to shine the spotlight on Genesis Loera, a powerhouse Latina Financial Planner and this month’s inspiring mujerpreneur.

Genesis isn’t just crunching numbers. She’s rewriting the narrative of financial success. With passion, expertise, and heart, she’s helping people move beyond simply “getting by” to building wealth, stability, and legacies that last a lifetime.

Let’s see what she has to share!

What is one key piece of finance information that you believe every entrepreneur should know?
Understanding the difference between personal and business finances and keeping them separate is foundational. Too many entrepreneurs blend the two, which can create unnecessary tax exposure, complicate succession planning, and limit long-term growth opportunities. Treat your business like the asset it is from day one.

What advice do you have for entrepreneurs at different stages of their journey regarding finance?

  • Start-up phase: Build clean systems early. That includes having a proper business entity, separate bank accounts, a bookkeeping process, and setting aside money for taxes.
  • Growth phase: Focus on building business credit, protecting cash flow, and investing in the right advisors.
  • Maturity/transition phase: Start thinking about succession planning and exit strategies years before you plan to step away. The earlier you plan, the more options you preserve, for yourself and your legacy.

What common mistakes do you see entrepreneurs make in finance, and how can they avoid them?
One major mistake is underestimating risk. Whether that’s not carrying the right liability coverage, lacking estate documents, or not having a continuity plan in case of disability or death. Another is not thinking about retirement until much later. Business owners often reinvest everything into the company and forget to diversify!! Avoid these by working with a planner who can bring both a protective and strategic lens to your financial decisions.

Can you share insight on trends or changes you see coming in finance that entrepreneurs should be aware of?
More business owners are starting to use trusts and advanced planning tools to separate ownership from control, especially as they think about legacy and family involvement. We’re also seeing growing interest in tax-efficient compensation strategies and private retirement planning options like solo 401(k)s and defined benefit plans. With rising taxes and regulatory changes on the horizon, proactive planning is more valuable than ever.

Need more expert advice? Genesis will be bringing even more of her insight and expertise to the stage at the Latina Entrepreneurship Conference on September 20th.
