Winning a Grammy and Building Spaces for Latinas ft. Poe Leos - Las Patronas Ep 9

Mexican-American Grammy winner on building self-belief, bilingual identity, and creating a platform for the Latina artists coming up behind her. Recorded live at SXSW.

Grammy-winning Mexican pop artist on music as math, self-belief, and doors she’s kicking open.

Las Patronas took their microphone to South by Southwest as part of their Sounds of Musica Mexicana coverage, presented by Sony Music Latin. And one of the most interesting brains they sat with was a Grammy-winning Mexican-American producer and pop artist who grew up in Rockford, Illinois, thinking she’d spend her life behind a computer. She didn’t. She built something that didn’t exist for her when she started — and now she’s building it for the girls behind her.

In this conversation: what it actually takes to believe in yourself before anyone else does, how music works like a math equation (and why that makes complete sense), and what it looks like to use your platform to kick a door open for someone else.
